FAQ:

What’s the difference between the STICKER DEAL and a CUSTOM RUN of stickers?
–First, the sticker deal is limited to 2 specific design sizes (4″x3″ and 6″x2″) Custom runs will let you choose any sticker size you want.
Second, the Sticker Deal can only be printed in Black ink on white vinyl , where as a Custom Run can be printed in any ink colour you like.
Third, the Sticker Deal usually takes a bit longer to print than a Custom Run.  For a Custom Run, we make a screen and film specifically for your design and print from that.  For the Sticker Deal, we make a screen and film with several different customers logos, and print from that plate for several different customers.  It sometimes takes time to fill up an entire sheet; thus the extended turn around.    If you are ordering more than 500 stickers, a Custom Run is usually a bit cheaper, prints faster and has more options than the Sticker Deal.
Can you make me stickers for next week, we have a show and want them?!
–All STICKER DEAL stickers take a bit longer to print than a custom run and we don’t offer set turn around times because we are offering a discount.  If you need stickers in a faster time frame, then you should order a Custom Run.

How do you want me to prepare my file?  
-Please send us either a Vector File (Adobe Illustrator), or a Raster File (Adobe Photoshop) at the proper print size.
1) If your graphic has a background that extends beyond the edge of your sticker, then please include an 1/8″ bleed  outside the final trim size.
2) We always recommend keeping all important information (contact addresses etc) 1/8″ inside the final trim dimensions.  That ensures that there is nothing cut off the sticker during trimming.   This is called the SAFE AREA.
3) Really small text, surrounded by big areas of ink, are always annoying to print; we don’t recommend you do this.
4) Small and serifed fonts don’t print as well as more blocky fonts.  Please avoid all script fonts that are below 18pt.

The shirts are 3 colours; two blues and red inks. We used our super soft Fashion Inks on these shirts, so the print is very soft and the colours stay bright over the life of the shirt.   The shirts where white Astlye Apparel 1701 Fashion Cut Tees w/ tear away tags.  These are our staple tee for people that want something more form fitting, without having to pay the increased cost of ‘premium’ brands like American Apparel.

HOUSE STOCK
We stock 100lb Bright White Cover stock, and 80lb Natural Cover Stock.   Both these sizes are perfect for poster and general printing, with the 100lb being the thicker stock listed.   Both have a smooth finish, and the 100lb is 100% recycled (the Natural is 30% recycled)   We have this in stock, in quantity at a sheet size of 26″x40″.

ASTROBRIGHTS COLOURED PAPER
Astrobrights is a line made by Wausau Paper.  It features many bright and bold colours and is readily available at our suppliers.   The sheet size we can order is 23″x35″.   It is mainly available in 65lb cover, and some colours are available in 80lb cover.   65lb is not the thickest paper (if you are looking for thick) but it is about the weight of your average non-screen printed movie poster.

Astrobrights will generally add approx $0.40-$0.70 per sheet  depending on image size.

ROYAL COMPLIMENTS
Royal Compliments is also made by Wausau Paper and features 9 bold and strong colours.  This is a premium quality 100lb paper suitable for artistic serigraphs, album packaging or record inserts.   The added weight of the Royal line will give your print a more robust and desirable item.
Royal Compliments will generally add approx $0.70-$1.20 per page depending on image size.

SPECIALTY PAPERS
Beyond the lines of paper listed here, we do have access to the entire stock of our paper mills and suppliers, which is a whole lot of options.   We can get metallic papers and heavy mirror-board, vellums and translucent papers, as well as a whole stock of cardboard mailers and other items we can print.   Contact us with your ideas and we will see what we can track down to suit.

Not only is Ben a master squeegee wrangler here at Ironclad (at least when he’s not touring the world in his kick ass band PS I LOVE YOU) but he is a very skilled designer.  In fact, he is so skilled, that one of the posters he designed, and we printed, has been featured on the cover of a new book on the best poster designers . . . if I could remember the name, I would post a link to it.

For this poster, Ben got the option of printing a gigposter for one of the dates on The National‘s North American Tour.   These posters are 24″ tall, approx 10″ wide, printed with 3 colours onto Roland Opaque Natural cover stock.

This year, we got the exciting chance to print two sets of posters for the St. Lawrence College Graphics Design program.   The first print, was a 2 colour poster that we printed for the 2nd year design class.

This poster was a bit more involved, requiring 3 screens, and 3 custom mixed colours.   The press sheet was a 20″x26″ Roland Natural White, with the poster being printed 2 up.   The run was 200 copies and was used to advertise the 3rd Year Graphic Design Show that they College does every year.

This was our first attempt that such a project, and despite the occasional hiccup that happens with every project that require 36 individual colours and screens.  With so many different types of art, it’s always a challenge to separate the files in an appropriate manner.

For the last several years, we have produced a 12 month calendar for the following year.   Each year we select 12 artists, mainly local artists, to design a page for a specific month.   For 2011′s Calendar, we selected 12 artists, some of which did pages for our 2010 Calendar Project.  This year, we gave the artists 2 options for ink colours; Cyan, Magenta & Yellow, or Red, Metallic Gold and black inks.

As always, the artists managed to pull off 12 individual and totally unique pieces of art to represent each month.   The variety of styles and methods of execution are always a pleasure to witness, and is part of the fun of doing such a project.
